Shopify Theme Detector
The theme any Shopify store runs, who made it, and whether it is headless.
Works on any public Shopify store.
How It Works
- Theme = the theme object every Liquid storefront prints in its page source
- Developer and listing = the theme’s page on the Shopify Theme Store, when it has one
- Headless = a Shopify store with no theme object, such as a Hydrogen front end
FAQ
How do I find out what Shopify theme a store uses?+
Paste the store’s URL above. Every Shopify store that runs a theme prints the theme’s name in its page source, and the detector reads it and checks the Shopify Theme Store for a matching listing.
Why does it say "Uploaded copy"?+
The store runs its own copy of a Theme Store theme rather than the original install. Brands do this when a developer customises the theme in code and uploads it. The design started from the listed theme, but the store may look quite different.
What does "Custom build" mean?+
The theme is not listed on the Theme Store. The brand or its agency built it, often starting from Dawn or another free theme.
What is a headless Shopify store?+
A headless store keeps Shopify for products, checkout and orders but builds its storefront separately, usually with Hydrogen, Shopify’s own framework, or Next.js. It has no Shopify theme, so there is none to detect.
Why does a store come back as not Shopify?+
The site showed none of the signs of a Shopify store: no theme, no Shopify headers, no Shopify product feed, and none of its checkout, shop or www addresses point at Shopify. It runs on another platform.
